Peter
Edwards
Peter Edward Firk, the
creator of Piano Stores
USA, who performs under
the stage name Peter
Edwards, is an
English-born composer,
pianist, and synthesizer
player known for creating
genre-blending musical
landscapes. His extensive
body of work spans
classical impressionism,
new age, worldbeat, smooth
jazz, Celtic fusion, and
ambient healing music
designed for therapeutic
spaces.
Early Life and Musical
Roots
Peter was born into a
highly accomplished,
multi-talented family in
southern England. He spent
his earliest years raised
in the historic country
town of Wallingford,
England, and frequently
played near Donnington
Castle during his
childhood in Newbury,
Berkshire.
Music and intellectual
curiosity ran deep in his
household:
Family Heritage: His
mother, Pamela Mary
Brown, gave him a deep
appreciation for his
Scottish and Celtic
roots (tracing back to
the historic Clan
Lamont). His father,
brother, and uncle
were
multi-instrumentalists,
while his mother sang
in local choirs.
Academic Move: His
father is an
internationally
recognized physicist
and the former
Chairman of the
Physics Department at
Yale University.
Because of his
father's academic
career, Peter moved to
New Haven, Connecticut
at the age of eight.
Musical Training:
Peter began rigorous
classical piano
lessons at age six,
forging a technical
foundation that would
later anchor his
expansive
improvisational style.
Musical Style and
Compositions
Firk’s career spans over
four decades of musical
exploration. Rather than
confining himself to
traditional classical
structures, he integrated
electronic synthesizers
and world rhythms to craft
"interdimensional,
nature-based musical
landscapes".
His sound palette covers a
vast web of musical
styles:
New Age &
Healing Music: He has
composed extensive
long-form ambient
works optimized for
meditation, yoga,
Reiki, and massage
therapy.
Acoustic &
Classical
Impressionism: His
acoustic piano
compositions rely
heavily on cinematic,
emotionally driven
melodies, often paired
with acoustic
instrumentation.
Smooth Jazz &
Worldbeat: For over 35
years, he has written
upbeat smooth jazz and
world-fusion
arrangements,
layer-sampling
woodwinds and complex
world percussion via
keyboard controllers.
Celtic Fusion:
Drawing heavily from
his family heritage,
he regularly records
pieces rooted in
traditional English,
Irish, and Scottish
folklore, such as his
track "Mist on the
Mountains".
Key
Collaborations and
Discography
Throughout his career,
Firk has worked as a solo
artist, commercial
composer, and
collaborative keyboardist.
One of his most notable
studio milestones came in
2002, when he recorded his
widely praised acoustic
piano album, Secret Oasis,
at Studio 880 in San
Francisco, alongside
concert violinist Anthony
Blea and his older brother
and producer, John. In
2017, he followed this up
with the release of
Eternity, a record
focusing heavily on
worldbeat-infused New Age
music.
Over the decades, he has
shared the stage and
studio with prominent
musicians:
Marion Meadows: The
world-renowned smooth
jazz soprano
saxophonist.
Michael Mills:
Master Afro-Caribbean
percussionist and
co-founder of Drums No
Guns.
Paul Mills: Master
trap drummer known for
playing with Chaka
Khan and the Average
White Band.
Michael Rabinowitz:
Prominent New York
City jazz bassoonist.
Michael
Gregory Jackson: American
guitarist and
composer celebrated
for his innovative
contributions across
genres such as jazz,
R&B,
avant-garde, rock,
blues, and free
jazz. Over the years
Jackson has played,
recorded and/or
collaborated with:
Billy Hart, Steve
Winwood, Anthony
Braxton,
Wadada Leo Smith,
Patti LaBelle, Omar
Hakim, and many
others.
Current Work and
Lifestyle
Outside of music
production, Firk is a
dedicated advocate for
holistic health,
vegetarianism, and raw
food lifestyles. He
operates several digital
resources for the
plant-based community,
including The Vegetarian
Travel Guide™,
RawFoodPlanet.com and the
Miami Vegan Guide.
He resides primarily in
Southeast Florida. He
performs live across
Southeast Florida as a
solo pianist and ensemble
bandleader, and travels
for events in New York
City and New England.
